I received one of the most special gifts ever gave to me by my loving girlfriend for Valentine’s Day. A Holga 120N. I immediately loaded it with Fujifilm Superia 100, 120mm format, still from my girlfriend, and started shooting. Here are some of the pictures taken with this camera.
A view of my office building, back when i was still their employee.

Its a very nice camera. All you have to worry about is composition, and hope that all your pictures come out properly exposed. I had to take it out for some street shots.

I dont like vignetting that much, so I dont use the square mask that often. What I’m going for is what this camera and its plastic lens can do.
I took it with me when i went to the beautiful Island of Boracay. A perfect place to test the camera, with bright sunny skies, and great beach, and beautiful colors everywhere. I was not prepared for what Im about to get. I was surprised on how the camera performed. See for yourself!

I did try shooting against the sun, to see how the plastic lens will handle the flares.

And a view of the place where we stayed. I miss it.

It doesnt take sharp pictures. No sharp pictures at all. If you like image quality and sharpness, this is not for you. You might as well get another camera, a rangefinder or an SLR.
For me this is a breath of fresh air. I dont go with the motto “dont think just shoot”. Before I go out and use this, I see to it that the weather is good, meaning, bright sunny skies. I usually shoot at high noon up to early afternoon where the sun is at its brightest with a bit of a yellow orangey color. I focus by guesttimating the distance between me and the subject to maximize the lens’ focusing capability.

Im not into cross-processing too. Its not for me. I want real colors, I want proper saturation with the colors. But, i will definitely try it. I think it would be fun to try it too. Its not like cross-processing is a crime, i mean, why the hell not?
I took a picture of my little sister, Venice, too. She’s using a Diana F+ i gave her last Christmas.

As far as i know, Lomography, is every bit and parcel, Photography. Its fun shooting with these plastic cameras, and you can make outstanding pictures with it if you really know the basic principles of photography.
I also took it to Bataan, where we had our company outing. The weather was not good, but, i still got some good shots.

This one was cropped. I’ve always wanted a REAL medium format camera, but this is the closest thing I have. So i cropped this one to make it a square image, without the vignetting.

So far, I had a great experience using this camera. I had a lot of fun with it, and It wont leave my camera bag anytime soon. It will stay there, and I’ve had it for quite some time now. Im using it as a back up for my Nikon FM2n, and it never failed me. Though I have to stay away from the Bulb setting. I took one shot, and seriously, its not good, since i have shaky hands.
Thanks to my girlfriend, Pam, for giving me this wonderful camera. It sure brings out my creativity. I love it.
Cheers,
D
